The Republic of the Two Worlds is a former penal colony of the Rhyno Confederacy. The Republic was formed in a resistance movement towards entrance into the Rhyno Commonwealth. The Republic is an independent government with an unrecognized claim on the Commonwealth's governance of the system.
The Republic enjoys a defensive pact with the Rogers Republic.
History
After the fall of the local Rhyno Confederate government in SY 2624, the Two Worlds system collapsed into anarchy as different liberated prisoner factions attempted to assert control over the system.
The distance between the binary star systems (Irari and Somari), while close my galactic standards, was too great for the light attack craft possessed by the warlords to establish a permanent dominance over both stars stellar bodies.
After two years of fighting, representatives of the Commonwealth Initiative brought several of the warring factions together on Irari A and offered to ensure peace and dominance if they signed the Commonwealth charter. News of the capitulation of the warlords on Irari A quickly spread to Somari Prime.
Refusing to join back under the Rhyno occupation, the people of Somari Prime seized the diplomats and peace force. This seizure granted the people of Somari Prime an upper hand in naval strength. They declared themselves an independent Republic.
The Commonwealth forces declared war on the new Republic, but were only able to spare forces to defend their control of Irari A. The deadlock persisted for three years before a cease fire was signed, status pro quo.
Resource skirmishes became common between the two factions, until SY 2876 with the rise of the Rogers Republic. The Rogers Republic made several attempts to annex the Two Worlds system, but the Two Worlds Republic never seriously entertained the offer. However, in SY 2995 the Two Worlds Republic did agree to terms on a non-aggression and mutual defense pact with the Rogers Republic in an effort to curtail further Rhyno Commonwealth expansion efforts.
The defensive pact came with no payments or concessions on the Two Worlds Republic's part, and was recognized by several galactic commentators as a major political win for the tiny Republic.
